massachusetts Bridgewater is a town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, located 28 miles south of Boston. It was settled in 1650 and was originally called Nunkatateset. It was incorporated as Bridgewater in 1656 and is named after Bridgwater (without the extra ‘e’), Somerset, England. The town’s total area is 28.2 square miles and its population was 25,185 at the 2000 census.
